Counsellor-In-Training (CIT)
Counsellor-in-Training Program
The Counsellors-in-Training (CIT) Program is offered to campers 15 & 16 years old who are looking for an opportunity to strengthen and practice their leadership skills while still having fun with and participating in all the camps activities. These two-week programs will train youth with the skills to lead, become good role models and will allow them the opportunity to put their training into play.
The CIT program is available in two sessions, CIT-S and CIT-J (each session is two weeks).
Counsellor In Training (CIT) Junior
CIT-J: July 8 – July 21, 2012 (For campers who have completed Grade 9)
Long Bay Camp’s CIT-J program is based mainly around the development of leadership and team building skills. This two-week session will provide participants with an enriched opportunity to learn about the core aspects of being leader, through a lively hands-on approach. Every afternoon, the group will come together to participate in activities that build an understanding of crucial leadership skills such as communication, collaboration, teamwork, responsibility, problem solving, among others. Much of the learning process in the CIT-J program will take place between their director and the members of their core group. This will allow participants to fully grasp the concepts and skills involved in leadership, and to discover who they are as leaders, both individually and in a collaborative way.
Counsellor In Training (CIT) Senior
CIT-S: July 22 – August 4, 2012 (For campers who have completed Grade 10)
This 2nd year CIT-S program will be an expansion of what participants learned in their 1st year as a CIT. This two-week session will present a more rigorous focus on the skills and responsibilities needed in order to be a counsellor. 2nd year CITs will be provided the training and the tools necessary to begin interacting closely with younger campers, and to be a part of the planning and implementation process of various activities at camp. This program will integrate senior staff members into teaching CITs the skills necessary to be a counsellor. Through counsellor shadowing, thorough practice in planning and leading numerous group activities, and immersion in various jobs and responsibilities around camp, senior CITs will be fully equipped by the end of the program to apply for staff positions the following summer.
